Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, David Hutajulu is a versatile comic book artist with over eight years of professional experience. His work includes a range of independent and Kickstarter-backed projects, short stories, and anthologies such as Pneumatic Cases (Last Ember Press), Aftermath (written by Andy Nordvall, crowdfund), The Doves of Whitechapel (written by Daniel Kalban, crowdfund), and Excavator (written by Nick Arganbright, crowdfund). One of David’s most notable projects was illustrating a short story written by Marvel writer Jeremy Whitley for an anthology published by TO Comix Press. He also completed Marvel test pages in 2018, drawing All-New X-Men and Spider-Gwen.
David’s work is defined by cinematic composition, dynamic visual rhythm, and a striking use of light and shadow. His pages blend the clarity of Western superhero storytelling with the kinetic energy of manga and European comics, resulting in art that feels bold, fluid, and emotionally charged. Whether illustrating cosmic battles or intimate moments, his refined sense of contrast and motion brings every story to life—making his style both distinctive and highly sought after in today’s comics industry.
